Nantucket PowerChoice Continues to Deliver Savings as National Grid Rates Increase
NANTUCKET, MA New six-month electricity supply prices took effect for National Grid customers on August 1, increasing to 17.185¢/kWh for residential customers and 15.568¢/kWh for small businesses through the end of January. Participants in Nantucket PowerChoice, the Town of Nantucket’s electricity aggregation program, will continue to see savings throughout National Grid’s new six-month term, even as the local program transitions to a new electricity supply contract in November.
Through October, residents enrolled in the PowerChoice Standard plan will continue to pay 13.967¢/kWh, nearly 19% less than National Grid’s new residential price of 17.185¢/kWh. Small businesses enrolled in PowerChoice Standard and residential participants in PowerChoice 100% Green (16.847¢/kWh) will also continue to pay less than National Grid’s comparable Basic Service rates.
In November, the current Nantucket PowerChoice contract will end and a new, 12-month contract with First Point Power will take effect. While PowerChoice prices will increase to reflect current market conditions, PowerChoice Standard will remain below National Grid’s current residential Basic Service price through January, when National Grid’s pricing will change again. Because future National Grid prices are not known, future savings cannot be guaranteed.

PowerChoice Standard – 16.115¢/kWh: Remains below National Grid’s current residential Basic Service price of 17.185¢/kWh through January.
PowerChoice 100% Green – 18.815¢/kWh: Provides 100% renewable energy sourced from New England solar projects.
These savings build on the program’s history of providing measurable value to the community. Since its launch in 2017, Nantucket PowerChoice has delivered more than $35.2 million in savings to local participants compared with National Grid’s electricity supply prices.
Nantucket PowerChoice also supports local and regional renewable energy investment. The program has provided more than $800,000 in local solar rebates to year-round residents who have installed solar on their primary Nantucket properties, while the new PowerChoice 100% Green option will support regional renewable energy through the purchase of Massachusetts Class I solar RECs specifically sourced from New England solar projects.
No action is needed by current participants. Active participants will transition automatically to the new contract rates in November, with the new program prices first reflected on National Grid bills received in December (under “Supply Services”). Participation is voluntary, and participants may opt out at any time with no fee or penalty.
